A Home Where History Meets Modern Mountain Design

We’re honored to have one of our projects recognized as Mountain Living’s 2025 Home of the Year. This Aspen residence is a unique blend of preservation and modern design, bringing together a restored historic Victorian with a contemporary new structure to create a one-of-a-kind mountain home.

Preserving a Piece of Aspen’s History

At the heart of the project is an 1889 Victorian home that has lived several lives across Aspen. Originally located on Main Street, the historic structure was relocated multiple times over the decades before eventually finding its current home. When the homeowners purchased the property, the house was in significant disrepair but still held the character and architectural details worth saving.

Working alongside the design team, the goal was to carefully restore the historic structure while honoring its original craftsmanship. Elements like the distinctive roof, wood siding, and decorative details were reconstructed to match the original design as closely as possible, preserving the home's historical presence while preparing it for modern living.

Expanding the Vision

While the restored Victorian carries the story of Aspen’s past, the homeowners also wanted a space designed for entertaining family and friends. The solution was to pair the historic home with a newly constructed contemporary building on the same property.

The new structure features clean lines, brick detailing, and modern interiors, creating a striking contrast to the ornate Victorian. Architectural details in the brickwork subtly reference the original home's decorative patterns, tying the two buildings together visually.

Connecting Old and New

A glass-walled kitchen bridges the historic and contemporary structures, physically and visually connecting the two spaces. Designed as the heart of the home, the kitchen opens to outdoor living areas with views of Aspen Mountain and serves as a central gathering space for entertaining.

Inside, the home offers a variety of spaces designed for both relaxation and hosting guests, including multiple living areas, a club room, a wine cellar, and a full wellness spa complete with steam room, sauna, and plunge features.

A Collaborative Effort

Projects like this are the result of close collaboration between architects, designers, engineers, and builders. Our role as the construction team was to bring the vision to life while respecting the integrity of the historic structure and the precision of the new build.

The result is a home that celebrates both heritage and innovation, proving that preservation and contemporary design can work beautifully together.
